Synopsis:
St. Petersburg, 1806. Gambling fever has the population in its grip, but one man, Herman Suvorin (Anton Walbrook) keeps a tight fist on his cash. That is until he discovers the tale that an elderly Countess (Edith Evans) sold her soul for the secret to winning at cards. Suvorin sets out to get the secret from the woman, no matter the cost.
